Teaching in NYC last week, I got a few photos of these people. The safety vests and everyone else in black made for a dazzling, out of my series, painting subject. But never one to leave a fine painting alone I tipped the people by cutting the paper cockeyed and making a few leaning marks in the figures. A more dynamic painting.
I am so inspired! I never thought of purposely tilting the subject for effect, although sometimes things get wonky just because I have trouble drawing a straight line (which I think are highly over-rated anyway).
I am the author of Master Disaster, 5 Ways to Rescue Desperate Watercolors. Based on a course that I have developed over many years, the bones of this book give you a plan to finish your paintings--and even your bombs. The meat of my book and course, though, is to help you structure your life to encourage and accommodate painting. Painters have to paint. This is how to do it.
